What's the output of "modinfo vboxdrv"?
Maybe dkms failed to build the latest version of the kernel module.
Please check /var/lib/dkms/virtualbox/4.1.12/<current kernel version>/<architecture>/log/make.log
and /var/log/apt/term.log.

Right, these instructions are for the PUEL version.
I guess I should patch this message, but unfortunately that means loosing the translations.

You could try to reinstall the dkms package ("sudo apt-get --reinstall install virtualbox-dkms").
